An independent specialist in the hire and sale of small plant, plant parts and the service and repair of plant. Originally founded as a blacksmith shop, Shropshire-based A T Wilde & Son Ltd (ATW) was founded in 1937 by Alfred Thomas Wilde. Having started as a blacksmith shop, it then expanded into supplying Lister Petter engines and gensets.
The business was continued by Alf’s son, Cyril, and later by Cyril’s sons.
In addition to service and repairs, the business also offered the hire of equipment and in 1964 this was set-up as a separate legal entity, Wildes Plant Hire Ltd, still operating from the Dorrington forge site.
Today, ATW supplies parts and engines for major manufacturers, and offers service and repairs of all sorts of plant and equipment. The sister company, Wildes Plant Hire Ltd, offers over 20 different categories of plant and equipment for hire, for any period from a day to multiple years
Between them, the businesses offer a full range of machines, parts, and hire services to the agricultural, construction and plant hire sectors across Shropshire and beyond.
As the third generation of the family reached retirement age, the decision was made to sell the businesses. Peter Venn, an entrepreneur from the materials handling industry acquired both businesses in late 2024
